What is a didactic farm?




 
. What is a didactic farm?
It is a school in the open air, which promotes the education to the rural world, where students and their teachers can be in touch with nature and know the rural world, product’s life cycle and the features of the territory.

. Aims:

• To increase the value of the relationship between city and country
• To drum up for the discovery of the environment and rural activity
To recover the environmental and cultural value of the territory
• To sensitize to environmental respect and to the rhythm of nature
• To know the origin of food and the passages from the ground to the table
• To provide information about product’s life cycle ( bread, pizza, pasta, wine, oil etc..)

. ITINERARY
Our farm gives the opportunity to organize school trips during the year, with different itineraries during the day:


. 1) From grape to wine with didactic workshop (September);








. Didactic aims:

At the end of the didactic itinerary, students will know the following subjects:

• Historical backgrounds and curiosità about wine
• What is the grapevine
• How and when it is possible to harvest
• The passage from grape to wine

. Forseen activities

Guided tour and harvest. Students will be able to distinguish: plant of grapevine, the parts of bunch of grapes, the stages of harvest. Harvest, to press grapes, prepare the grape juice, fermentation of the grape juice and transformation into wine, settling and stabilization of wine and its storage and maturation.



. 2) From olive sto oil with didactic workshop ( November and December)






. Didactic aims:

At the end of the didactic itinerary, students will know the following subjects:

• Historical backgrounds and curiosity about oil
• What is the olive tree
• How and when it is possible to pick up olives
• The passage from olive to oil

. Forseen activities

Guided tour and picking of olives. Students will be able to distinguish: how to pick up olives, the different branches of olives trees.

To bring olives to oil-mill. What is an oil- mill and how it works. Possible guided tour to an oil-mill.

Pickink of olives and transport to oil-mill. Washing and crashing olives, olive oil extraction and storage





. 3) From corn to bread with didactic workshop (every month)






. Didactic aims:

At the end of the didactic itinerary, students will know the following subjects:

• Historical backgrounds and curiosity about corn
• What is the corn
• How and when it is possible to seed corn
• The passage from corn to bread


. Forseen activities

Guided tour. Students will be able to distinguish: how seed corn, when it is ripen and how to harvest it.

Knead flour to obtain bread, pizza, pasta and biscuits and to eat them


. 4) Nature trail in our firm ( every month)








• Guided tour in our firm

• Guided tour of our farm ( to hoe, to plant, to irrigate)




. 5) Transformation cycle (every month)






• From fruits to product ( jam, fruit juice etc..)


. COSTS



. Guided tour of our farm with workshop: 10 €

. Guided tour of our farm with workshop and lunch: 20 €

. Optional visit:
• Saltwarks and Wetland in Margherita di Savoia
• Ipogei in Trinitapoli.


Recomended reservation at the beginning of scholar year both for guided tour in our farm and for Saltwarks and for Ipogei.

. Clothes and tools
Sportive clothes and comfortable shoes for activities in the open air are required. Replacement of shoes, hat, flask and snack if lunch isn’t reserved in our firm are necessary.
